Lelystad Airport will be the third airport of The Netherlands

The renewed Lelystad Airport will opened in 2018 and will then be incrementally developed so that it can call on 45,000 flights per year. Lelystad Airport has to be the third largest airport in The Netherlands. The total renovation will cost 90 million euros .

Schiphol has the phased development of Lelystad Airport in order to accommodate growth. This is in the business plan of Lelystad Airport, Schiphol Group has prepared as a fulfillment of the agreements on the Alderstafel Schiphol (2008) and Lelystad (2012). Lelystad Airport will offer flights to Europe cities and regions. “The development of Lelystad Airport is important for the growth of mainport Schiphol. Schiphol can be a competitive international airport by this investment,” said Jos Nijhuis, CEO of Schiphol Group.

Alderstafel 2008
To preserve and strengthen the economic position of Schiphol agreed a selectively development. Schiphol is the proposed development of Lelystad Airport after the agreements of the Aldersakkoord 2008. With airlines, residents, air traffic controllers, governments and Schiphol have been agreed that the growth of Schiphol will support as an alternative to non-mainport related traffic (as Eindhoven Airport). The regional capacity should be available to reache 90% of 510,000 aircraft movements (the so-called signaling border). The government has included these agreements in the Aviation Memorandum of 2009 and reaffirmed in 2012. Schiphol Group’s business plan submitted to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment and requested an airport decision. This is in order to start. Prior to the decision declares the government on the development of Lelystad Airport in June.
